Music Department Earns Prestigious VMEA Blue Ribbon Award

Pittsylvania County Schools is incredibly proud to announce that the Chatham High School Music Department has been honored with the Virginia Music Education Association (VMEA) Blue Ribbon Award. As the highest accolade bestowed upon school music programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia, this prestigious award recognizes absolute excellence in band, orchestra, and choral performance.
Chatham High School distinguished itself as the only high school in the Southside Region to receive this honor this year. The designation was secured after both premier performing ensembles earned top marks at their respective regional assessments:
• The Chatham High School Concert Band performed at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) Region VI Assessment held at George Washington High School, receiving a rating of Superior.
• The Chatham High School Show Choir performed at the Virginia Choral Directors Association (VCDA) Region VI Assessment held at Radford University, also receiving a rating of Superior.
By securing consecutive "Superior" ratings, both groups met the rigorous criteria required to qualify the school for this elite statewide recognition.
Pittsylvania County Schools extends its warmest congratulations to the dedicated student musicians of both ensembles. We also commend band director Mr. Logan Epperly and choral director Ms. Hope McKinney for their exceptional leadership, instruction, and dedication, which guided these talented students to this historic achievement.
